launching your biz? start here.

Social media strategy, email marketing, pinterest, blogging, website analytics, YouTube content…

it’s a loooooooong list of to-dos for any business owner to manage.

But, I don’t need to be the one to tell you how insanely important your digital presence is. I’m sure you’ve heard it maaaaany times before.

And yet, you’re here for a reason, so here’s the tea…

So many business owners try to do everything themselves…

writing their website copy…

sending out daily, weekly, monthly newsletters to their list…

posting on social three times a week with multiple reels a day…

adding Pinterest into the mix (because, why not?)…

and then toooootally scrambling to make it all work

(all while running a full-time business) …

Which is the number 1 reason why so many business owners then quit EVERYTHING and eventually fade into digital ghost-town land with virtual tumbleweeds rolling their way through their online pages.

So, what’s a savvy business owner to do, anyway?

First? Quit trying to do everything at once.

Your business (and your mental health) will thank you once you hone in on one to two REALLY GOOD strategies that you actually enjoy doing. So, if writing isn’t your thing, then stop blogging. If you’d rather sell one of your kidneys than dance in front of a camera, then stop making TikToks.

You hear me?

We all think we need to do everything that the experts tell us to do then completely lose our minds trying to figure it all out, all at once. Bonkers.

It’s far more effective to go all in on something you actually enjoy doing, then try to master 5 strategies poorly all at once.

So, if Pinterest actually IS your thing (first, I want to talk to you then), then pin your heart out!

If Instagram reels make the most sense to you, then focus on that…

and if you’re all about selling to your email list, then build that list and get those clicks.

So, pick a lane, then get consistent.

Second, you gotta fix your web copy

I know, I know. I said, pick something you’re good at and build from there.

BUT - and - you know this. Your website is the online hub of your business.

It’s where your people go to find you…

learn from you…

obsess over your products…

maybe stalk your services a little too intensely… checking back in, day after day, until one day…

💥

they click that purchase button and turn into an exclusive member of your current client list.

and that’s exactly when the love fest begins…

but, before we get ahead of ourselves and start packing for the Maldives with all that hypothetical revenue that’s sure to flow in… let’s back up a minute.

If your site is live (congrats!) but you aren’t seeing many clicks from page to page, I hate to break it to you but your copy is likely a problem.

You see, if people aren’t resonating with you, they’re moving on to someone else. Unless your niche is super super super exclusive and you’re the only business in the whole world that offers what you offer, and literally everyone wants to get in on what you sell… you’re screwed if your copy is making people zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

We’re all so incredibly inundated with content these days that too many of us just. don’t. read.

Experts say that most of the time, readers click out of a site after the headline and for those that make it past the first few lines, usually only read up to about 250 words.

People are just too busy or too distracted (squirrel!) to read through to the end of an a lennnnnnnnngthyyyyyyyyyyy About page on your website, for instance. You might care about the many credentials you hold that make you super qualified, but most people don’t. They want to see what you offer. What your prices are. And if they like your vibe. That’s it.

So, if you have something to say, make it worth their time.

If you suspect this is happening, hit me up for a copy audit. I love working with businesses to solve the WTF is happening problems in their business.

Now onto tip #3

Don’t rely too heavily on external platforms.

Yes - we all use them. Whether it’s Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok, or any number of apps you’re using to help autogenerate info back to your base, I’m going to tell you to take a long hard look at it.

Now let me ask you a question.

What would you do if Instagram went offline for 4 or even 24 hours?

What about TikTok?

What if leads coming through Pinterest all of a sudden stopped and not a single sole was downloading your 10 Ways to Get Fit in 2024 Guidebook?

(not a real guidebook but 10/10 would read)

So what’s a business to do? We’re all online, right?

True - yes.

But the thing about the digital world is that you either own the platform or it owns you.

Enter, email marketing.

If there’s one thing you NEED to do beyond putting together a quick website, it’s grow your email list.

Email marketing has the best ROI in the biz (I’m talking over 4000% ROI) and is one of the only ways businesses can truly market their services and products without relying on big tech.

Sure, you may host it on another platform, but the list you’ve so meticulously collected is yours.

And just yours.

And is a literal goldmine of warm leads ready to hear from you….

be nurtured by you…

hear allll about your special discounts and offers….

until one day, they’re ready to buy…

and then they send the email to their bestie, and her besties, and then all of a sudden your monthly profits go from 10k to 100k and beyond…

Congrats, by the way. I love this for you.

Now, if you’re sitting here thinking, “Amy, I don’t know how to write an email like the pros”, I got you. Email marketing is one of my FAVOURITE forms of writing and I have many packages to suit different businesses at various stages.

And it would be my absolutely pleasure to hear what you have in mind for this next leg of your business.
